Pregnant Moms-to-be have busy schedules in today’s world. Not only juggling work and family life, pregnancy adds more stress to an already full life. Looking for ways to support a mom during pregnancy is really important. Prenatal Massage, when performed by an experienced massage therapist, can improve sleep, decrease pain and tension, and lower anxiety. Relaxation is a powerful tool for health during pregnancy.

At Indigo, all of our therapists have been trained in prenatal massage, its contraindications, and in the use of a specialized cushion allowing moms to lay fully supported on their stomach and also in the side-lying position. Indigo also has spa services such as our Pure Focus Mini-Facial that moms-to-be can add to their massage as an upgrade.

A study at the University of Miami School of Medicine suggests that massage therapy might have multiple positive effects, including:

  • lowered anxiety
  • decreased back and leg pain
  • improved sleep
  • decreased levels of the stress hormone norepinephrine
  • promote the physiological response of relaxation

After the first trimester, most prenatal moms can receive deep tissue massage to relieve their back and hip tension related to pregnancy. An experienced massage therapist helps a woman create positive associations between the changes in her body and preparing for childbirth. We encourage women to take care of themselves through all stages of their pregnancy. New moms who do so will likely find themselves in a better state to take care of their babies.                                                                   www.scienceofmassage.com
